Chapter 2 summary

In this chapter we see Scout growing up and her having to adapt in the ‘real’ world. ‘ Jem said, “but you’ll see—school’s different.” ‘.  School life for her is quite different than life at home. It can be shown by Jem say about how school is different, people expect you to act in a certain way, Jem is expecting from Scout not to treat him the way she’d treat him at home. Harper Lee uses the hyphen to imply that there is no legitimate answer but you simply have to do what is needed of you. Additionally, by Jem saying ‘ you’ll see ‘ illustrates that Jem cannot think of answer.

This shows more clear development of your skills of analysis. In support of this, you show very clear inferences of character that you justify with clear evidence from the text.

    Targets:
    1) Vary your vocabulary – how many times have you used the word ‘different’
    above?
    2) increase your use of technical vocabulary – a dramatic praise, indicated by a hyphen is called caesura
    3) you link your work to a theme but I would like to see this developed here and across your work
